Raw Food Diet – Freezing
Another perhaps slightly controversial aspect of the raw food diet is the issue of freezing food. Some raw foodists especially where this type of food preservation will be most necessary say that it is acceptable. However, others say that by doing this the food will in part be damaged and that it will lose a lot of its value. However, whilst some raw foodists might see freezing as damaging, they might not see it as bad as cooking.
Some producers of crops for instance peas say that freezing them rapidly after picking will help to maintain the vitamin level – of course one problem with this is that when defrosting, they will certainly lose some of their “freshness” relative to fresh peas – so probably the best is to get as much of one’s food locally as possible preferably at the site of harvest if that is an option, though that will of course depend on the availability of the types of food that one can get. On the other hand, eating a raw food diet is about making compromise and where necessary raw food might be the only choice in any case.
